Pocket Projector
Lantern is a platform that streamlines the task of socializing for students.
Problem Statement
Planning and coordinating schedules limits time for more meaningful social activities. We set out to investigate the following: How do students interact? How do students utilize space? How do students manage commitments? How do students value different relationships? How do students adapt to different social contexts?

Concept Sketches
The sketches above are the iterations of the working concepts that were proposed by various members of the team. Elements of each iteration were successful and were integrated into the final concept.
The sketches below represent the final solution: a hand held projector that is delightful to hold. It features two buttons on the top-facing side, a projector on the front-facing side, and a metal ring on the bottom-facing side in order to attach it to a key chain.
Storyboarding
Throughout the design process, we utilized storyboards to externalize thoughts and concepts. After settling on a final concept, we created the two storyboards pictured below.
The first storyboard shows how a single user would use the platform. The second storyboard shows how multiple users would use the platform collaboratively.
We further utilized these storyboards as prototypes to validate the final concept with students at the university.
The Outcome
This hand held pocket projector fosters social interaction by streamlining the act of comparing schedules between students. It has the ability to project individual schedules, or multiple overlapping schedules.
